Baselworld 2013: A whole new take on the Concord C1 Chronograph
Baselworld 2013: A whole new take on the Concord C1 Chronograph
Six years after the successful launch of its rugged C1 Chronograph, Concord has taken the new C1 into a whole other dimension. Slimmer and sexier, larger and leaner, the C1 has undergone a radical makeover in both look and constitution, while retaining the unmistakable DNA of the brand and its heritage.
Pared down to a svelte 15.10mm in depth from the original 16.7 mm thickness, the C1’s frame has been expanded in diameter from 44mm to 47mm, in light-as-air grade 5 Titanium. And to provide enhanced durability and heightened elegance to men of contemporary style, the original C1’s more rugged-looking rubber-coated metal bezel has been swapped for a hardwearing, up-to-the-minute ceramic version.
EASY-WEARING AND INGENIOUS REFINEMENT
The C1’s original trademarked vulcanized rubber straps have morphed into multi-layered straps of leather sewn onto rubber that mold to the oblique curve of the wrist, offering greater comfort and ingenious refinement. All design elements of this handsome new model have been reengineered for a simpler, sleeker look. From the subtle new case back etching, the less prominent crown and new titanium/ceramic shaped pushers to the diamond-cut/brushed finish of the hands, these ingenious refinements blend artfully with C1’s signature octagonal bezel and chronograph counters, and applied ‘C’ logo curled around the date window. The result is a re-envisioned, modern design that masterfully launches the new C1 Chronograph into the 21st century’s league of top watch contenders.
ARTFULLY ALTERED DNA
Over half a decade after the fascination and emotion created by the birth of its unique predecessor, Concord is once again positioned to demonstrate what makes a watch brand iconic with the launch of the new C1 Chronograph – a brilliantly refined titanium and ceramic evolution of the original carbon–fiber, finely milled metal and rubber design.
With artfully altered DNA and the avant-garde spirit of its larger-than-life older sibling – the new C1 Chronograph is living, steadily beating proof that less is definitely more.
FASCINATING VARIATIONS
The new Concord C1 Chronograph is offered in fascinating new versions for men on a quest for sophisticated and eminently masculine style. Choices include a black PVD-treated grade 5 titanium case with titanium detail on a black calfskin and textile-coated rubber strap with red top-stitching – or its titanium/ceramic counterpart, featuring sporty ceramic details and a black rubberized alligator strap. Both straps are finished with a black, PVD-treated titanium deployment buckle with embossed Concord cover.
These new generation C1 Chronographs are equipped with grade 5 titanium screw-down crowns and pushers. Secured with eight screws, their open case-backs are engraved ‘Audace–Savoir-Faire–Avant-Garde’, honoring Concord’s proud, decades-long tradition of fine watch making.
Powered by a mechanical, self-winding movement with snailed bevel rotor, vertical Côtes de Genève and ‘C1’ engraved in the center, 48-hour power reserve and 2 mm thick sapphire crystal with anti-reflective treatment. The ultimate touch in modern refinement: a black stamped dial houses the 30-minute counter at 12 o’clock and 12-hour counter at 6 o’clock, accompanied by a small seconds subdial at 9 o’clock, date window at 3 o’clock and center-mounted chronograph sweep seconds hand.
